About the project

– Tell us about the project. What is its essence, what sets it apart from its competitors?

Purithea is a natural food manufacturer specially created to champion sustainability and take care of the health of our customers. We believe in making healthy products without harmful ingredients. Unfortunately, many companies add shoddy fillers to their products to increase their profit margins, and fruits, vegetables and grains are often oversaturated with products filled with sugar, palm oil, chemicals and GMOs. At Purithea, we believe that nature has already given us all the natural resources we need. Our mission is to deliver them to our customers so that they can eat healthy and feel good.

– How? ‘Or’ What is ONE NUT – a range of nut butter that you make – different from other nut butters on the market?

ONE NUT is designed for people who love simple peanut and almond butter with great taste and all-natural ingredients. ONE NUT includes pine, apricot seeds and pistachio butter for flavoring. That’s it! The alternative nut butters we use are ideal for different diets, including Paleo or Ketodiets. Our butter is also a great option for vegan diets, diabetics – as we don’t add sugar, and people with peanut allergies as they can choose any of our other nutty flavors.

What inspired your choice of packaging – square glass jars?

We decided to use glass because it is an environmentally friendly material. Our jars are reusable and recyclable. Many pots are even recycled after use to grow plants and herbs, helping to achieve our goal of a sustainable lifestyle. Plastic was a “no-go” for us because of the implications that creation and disposal have on the environment.

We were also very aware that nut butter has an incredibly long shelf life which is great, but if a product sits in a plastic container for too long it absorbs the properties of the plastic and we wanted to avoid that to maintain the properties of the plastic. healthy properties of butter. Glass does not have this same chemical reaction.

We also thought that the square shape of the pots would allow us to stand out from the competition. Most jars on grocery store shelves are round because it is easier to remove the last drops of the product. – How did you get this business idea?

I have always had a passion for healthy eating. My parents told me about the long term effect of the products we consume on the way we feel and look. I took it a step further and studied nutrition so that I could make informed decisions about the food I eat.

Based on my studies, I have always found it difficult to find healthy, satisfying snacks. As a consumer, I wanted to offer a variety of high quality, simple but tasty products for those times when I was on the go. This is where the idea was born. I started writing ideas to give what I wanted to the like-minded community.

– Was it difficult to attract investment?

We started funding the project ourselves and had no trouble finding investors. However, the real challenge for us was to find people to share our vision and who believe in a larger mission rather than being there for profit. Of course, like any business, making money is always important to keep moving towards the goal, but the most important thing is finding people who buy into what we are trying to achieve.

– Did you have any culinary experience before founding Purithea. Was it difficult to start a business?

In fact, I had no culinary experience before starting this trip. Although I have a degree in business administration and digital marketing. I used this knowledge from school and previous work to develop the business model as it is today, but I would have liked to have had a mentor to guide us at the start.

How difficult was that? Well, starting an idea is difficult in its own way. But I am a person who likes challenges and likes to learn. It was exciting for me to build something that I’m so passionate about. I am always learning something new every day. That’s what I love about entrepreneurship.

About the crisis and the plans

What Happened to Your Business During COVID-19?

We launched our products in November 2020, in full self-isolation. Due to these circumstances, we were not able to launch as we had planned. However, due to the pandemic, people are generally more concerned with the food they eat. Nut butter is an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and macro elements that help strengthen the immune system. This means that our online sales have unexpectedly tripled according to forecast. However, due to store closures, we struggled to meet in-store shoppers and network. It had a bad effect on our sales plan because we think it is very important to have in person communication, because alternative nut butter is still a niche market, and we have to do a product presentation in no one to really convey the benefits.

– Are you planning to develop other products or will ONE NUT be the only one a?

ONE NUT is our flagship product, but we are already developing a few new products. Purithea will move from a single-product store to a platform specializing in healthy food products. We will be adding TOKA Matcha green tea to our product family starting next week and are excited about our future growth!

Our biggest challenge is not to bite more than we can chew. We have so many great ideas and projects that we want to put our teeth into, but unfortunately there are only 24 hours in a day. We have learned to prioritize our tasks, so we will continue to move forward logically and accordingly, one step at a time.

– If you look more broadly, what is the most difficult thing in entrepreneurship and your field of activity? How did you learn to deal with it?

As an entrepreneur, the hardest part is being in a position where you have to make a difficult decision that could have a crucial impact on your business. Holding your future in your hands every day to make these decisions can be nerve-racking, but that’s also what makes it super exciting. The success of our business also depends entirely on the success or failure of external actors. Working in the US market must be managed competently and expertly to ensure that those profits continue to grow and that we keep moving forward. In times of recovery, it is important not to overinflate assessments; and if that fails, it is important not to overdo the issues. Rapid growth and rapid decline in capitalization translates into stable development, so it is always important to have a clear mind and see the big picture.
